International Film Festival of Kerala (IFFK) is an annual event held at Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. Organized by the Kerala State Chalachitra Academy, this year IFFK is going to be held between 12th – 19th December 2008. With the screening of nearly 130 films from around the world film lovers are waiting for a visual treat.
Malayalam Cinema Industry has always been noted for it’s story oriented movies. Unlike Tamil and Telugu cinemas where the movies are nothing but a masala-mix, in Malayalam movies you can solidly expect a touching story and screenplay. Malayalam cinema industry has produced a large number of movies which won accolades in various film festivals, including state and national awards. It’s no wonder that such an event like IFFK is a great success in Kerala.
But there is a slow change in the artistic nature of Malayalam movies. The commercially well-running Tamil and Telugu movies has an impact on Malayalam cinema industry. Now the people are started to go behind ordinary, heroism movies. Let’s hope that this will not continue.
Kanchivaram
In this IFFK, I’m eagerly waiting to watch a Tamil movie Kanchivaram , directed by Priyadarshan. Kanchivaram is a story of a man living in Kanchivaram. This town in Tamilnadu is famous for the finest silk saris. The film talks about the life of a silk weaver. Kanchivarm is yet to be released in Tamilnadu, but prior to that it has got screened in film festivals and received a well feed back. Kanchivaram will be my top first film-to-watch in this IFFK.
Other than that few Malayalam movies also there in my list. Hopefully I can write reviews also for the film I am watching in IFFK. Watch this space…
