in Java

So, what’s happening to Java, apart from the unsuccessful IBM buyout deal !? Well, this time, Google has brought the Java again in the news. Now, Google is providing support for Java language also in Google App Engine.

The support comes with various limitations too. For example, restricted System object, disabled File System access, not possible to open a socket, etc. to name a few. As a App Engine java application will have to co-exist in a cloud of other applications, these restrictions are understandable and unavoidable. Well, it is always something is better than nothing!

Also, from their blog article, it looks like Google is working on a Eclipse plug-in. So, if this plug-in also getting released, it is surely gonna help the GAE Java developer.

What’s your thought on the GAE support for Java !?

I want PHP in Google App Engine. That won’t happen anytime soon – until then, I’ll settle with Python.

yes, out of the top 3 web programming languages, App Engine supports two (Java and Python) and the only thing that left out is PHP. Let’s hope Google adds PHP support too, soon in GAE.
