It’s out. The much awaited version of Firefox 3.5 is released today. After the multiple release of the Release candidates version, the actual software is made available to the public today. If you are using Firefox already, you can directly upgrade from your older version of FF. If you are using a browser other than Firefox and wants to try it out, you can download the Firefox 3.5 and experience it. Below are some of my initial impressions of Firefox 3.5
It’s Fast! – FF 3.5 loads faster than ever!
I must admit it. FF 3.5 loads quicky. Now I don’t need to stare at my monitor thinking what happened after the click on the Firefox icon. Firefox 3.5 comes to existence very quickly than any other old Firefox versions. This is a good thing to me, as the slow loading of Firefox was always a concern to me. Even in my previous post about the Firefox 3.5 expectations, I recieved a suggestion to use profiles inorder to speed up Firefox. But, with FF 3.5, that work around in not needed now.
It’s Cute! – FF 3.5 looks cute this time!
Apart from the speed, the another thing which will get your attention is the look and feel of FF 3.5. You can see that the Firefox logo has been improved a bit (though not much) and the user interface has also been improved. The browser’s interface integrates very well with the native look-and-feel system. In my Windows XP, the default theme itself is very soothing to eyes.
It’s Cool! – FF 3.5 is loaded with cool stuffs!
Now, this stuff is important to me (and the web developers around the world). Firefox 3.5 is loaded with many more HTML 5 features. To name a few, now the browser supports the Geo-location API, thus providing the user’s current location to the location-aware web applications. Supports downloadable fonts. So, if you use a very-cool-but-not-a-standard font in your website, you don’t need to beg the user to install that font in his machine. You just download it from your web site (via CSS) and it will be available for your site. And the could-be-a-flash-killer Video and Audio tags are supported in Firefox 3.5. Apart from this, support has been added to many more technologies. See the complete list of technologies that are supported by FF 3.5.
It works!! – yes! It just works!
Overall, the initial impression is Firefox 3.5 is good and works! Need to load it with all the n-number of add-ons that I often use and have to see the browser’s performance then. If you haven’t downloaded it yet, then download Firefox 3.5 from here.
