This workaround never worked for me!
Every time i start Apache via XAMPP i see this messages:
Status Check OK
Busy...
Apache Started [Port 80]

BUT Apache is not really started.

This is my conf
Listen 8080
ServerName localhost:8080

The only way to make Apache start normally is to disable in the skype options "use port 80 and 443 as alternative...".

a lot of people are a little scared of changing the port ,i dont know why but they are . Or be honest your not sure how to. if you just want a server to run wordpress drupal joomla etc and need a local server you could use "easy php" this seems to work for a lot of people who struggle with installations,i wont get in to the techno garble port etc just give it a try. it may work for you.
