Today, Google has made an important announcement on one of it’s core product Search. The announcement has started a buzz in the web, since it could change/impact many web businesses. The announcement was about a secret project that Google was working on for quite some time, which involves the drastic change in the Google Search Engine Infrastructure. From the announcement, it looks like Google has made major changes at their back end, which they call it as Google Caffeine Update.

I guess Google’s objective for working on this Caffeine Update is to build a effective indexing mechanism for ever expanding web. During the time, when Google was introduced, the web was static and silent. Since then, the landscape has changed dramatically. Web 2.0 has enabled the end user to participate in dynamic web and to produce content on-the-fly. So, for a search engine, like Google, it is very very important to update it’s indexing logic to consider all these dynamically generated content. No doubt that Google has been doing this for a long time and that’s the reason Google rules the search engine kingdom. But, with this Caffeine update, Google is trying to improve upon what it has been doing for a long time.

What about the SEO folks?

The number one community who would be more affected, interested, impacted, curious about Caffeine Update is the Search Engine Optimization folks. Because they run their business mostly based on the Google search engine rankings. They learn all the tricks to beat their competitors in getting a better position in Google search engines. And it is more likely that Caffeine update will change Page rank of most of the web pages and this will make the SEO folks to re-learn all their tricks. It’s not even clear that will Google outsmart these SEO workarounds in order to provide the better results to the end user. Need to wait and see what happens.

What ever it is – the search is what the most happening place in web. As the competiton gets tighter and tighter, we, the end user, gets the most useful product out of it. I’m happy about that.
