IE6 No More!!

Just now added the IE6NoMore script in my blog. This script will show an alert message to my blog visitors, if they are (still) using Internet Explorer 6, the developer-nightmare browser.

Since my blog is targeted to the developer community and most of the developers would have already upgraded to the latest versions of modern browser and if you are also in that group, then most probably, you will not be seeing this alert message. But, for others, informational message about the old IE6 browser and the links for installing modern browsers such as Firefox, IE8, Safari and the Chrome, will be shown.

Few words about IE6 No More:

IE6NoMore is an initiative targeted to the web users who are still using Internet Explorer 6. As you might beĀ  already knowing, IE6 is the big pain for every web developer around the world. Due to the lack of standards compliance by IE6, the web developers are forced to fix/patch their web designs mainly for IE family of browsers. Obviously this affects the productivity and doubles the developer’s work.

In order to save the web developers around the world, the stop IE6 process has gained momentum in recent days. Even though the larger share of web users might have migrated to modern browsers, a considerable amount of corporate users still tied with IE6, due to corporate IT policy. The initiatives, like IE6NoMore, could bring out those users also out of IE6.

Let’s aim for a better web experience – say no to IE6!

There are too many choices for people who are internet un-savvy. Usually that’s the person who still uses IE6 and don’t raise the question at work. They don’t know the difference between IE6 and Firefox. Really. And then you give them a choice of four? Won’t happen.

http://ie6update.com/ is a better solution, which fools the user that IE needs a certain plugin to view this page, with notification similar to the flash and activeX plug-in notices. When clicked it redirects to the IE8 page of Microsoft. MS and Windows are environments similar to these users and they will feel more at home .

Yes. It’s even logical to show a IE like ‘updates’ message instead of asking the user to install different browsers. Will try to put this variant of script in my another blog (yeah.. I do have more than one blog! :) )

The main impact of IE6NoMore will be the harassment of people who can not afford to buy new computers.
