I bought several books last week, of which three I would like to mention here:
- First one, Effective Java, written Joshua Bloch. This book is not a yet-another-programming book, but it’s one of a kind. It teaches you how to effectivley use Java (off course, from the book title itself you could get that!) and it really does. If you are into OO programming, you MUST read this book.
- next one is PHP 6 and MySQL. Me, right now working on a PHP project (not official). So, had to buy this one. Teaches you the PHP from basics. Good read. But not sure whether are there any better books than this one. Do let me know if there are any.
- The last one 2 States, written by Chetan Bhagat. Haven’t read it yet. Just skim through the back cover synopsis and the prologue. Looks like an interesting read. The reviews are also good. So, an entertainer is waiting for me this week.
Trivandrum Higgin Bothams is in very sorrow state. The store looks like a Government run book shop. Even the East Fort platform bookshops have better collections than HB! But, DC books at statue has a great list of academic and tech books. There’s a separte store for the literature book too. But none of them are in Tamil. Anyway, what else you can expect in a Malayalam book shop! It’s been long time since I read one Tamil literature book, other than ‘Aanandha Vikatan’.
