Building a desktop PC for RS 20K

February 2, 2010 · 11 comments

I’m planning to build a desktop PC for myself. I do not want to go for a branded systems, like Dell or Compaq, for two reasons – one: they come with the bundled Windows; two: there is no AMD powred system. There is one more important reason – that the cost should come around RS 20,000.

I’m not building this system for Gaming (but, I might occasionally play FIFA). So the focus here is not on the beauty outside, but the beast inside. Here’s what my current configuration looks like:

Processor – AMD Athlon X2 – 2.8GHz, 2MB, AM3 – 64 Bit2900

Motherboard – Asus AMD 740G – M2A74-AM2850

Memory – Kingston 4 GB4000

Hard disk – Seagate 160 GB 1850

Monitor – Acer 17” LCD5800

Optical Drive – LG DVD Writer1100

Cabinet + Keyboard + Mouse – Any 1500

20,000

* All the prices are based on Deltapage

If you have been using any of the above mentioned items, please feel free to give a review on the same. Also, if you have any other better configuration in mind, do leave a comment, will update my wish list based on that.

Hi,
I am also checking the vendors nowdays reg. a new CPU for myself (but without monitor). Reg. your configuration here are my suggestions:
1) if possible buy a HP 17″ monitor(HP L1706 – abit old but best in class. I personally don’t like wide screen monitors). Check with local HP vendor. the quality is really good. This is the thing which should be of good quality. I have no idea abt Acer products but i must say.. care for your eyes.
2) Go for microsoft original set of K/B + mouse cost around Rs. 650/-
3) Cabinet should support 4-5 USB 2.0 ports and a good card reader. Also wi-fi card in cabinet cost around Rs. 900/-
4) if u have a laptop with DVD writer, drop it from Desktop. Use Lan to get data (using a wi-fi router)

Thanks for the suggestions.

@Acer monitors – i have been using them at my office. I found it quite OK. But I have never used an HP monitor though. So can’t compare them both. Anyway, will check the HP monitors, too.

@Microsoft keyboard – yeah. I might go for a ergonomics keyboard.

I used to buy all stuff from them. The dealers there are knowledgable and good and fixed reasonable pricing.
